Our Score
Written and directed by playwright David Hare, this a subtle, suddenly shocking, story set in Wetherby, a cold, bleak town in Yorkshire, where unmarried local teacher Jean Travers (Vanessa Redgrave) gives a small dinner party. The next day she is visited by one of the guests, John Morgan (Tim McInnerny) who suddenly takes out a gun and kills himself with it. The reasons are not at all explicable at first, but as they gradually emerge, the apparently innocuous party is seen again in a whole new light. An intriguing British movie, underrated in its day.

A teacher throws a dinner party for her friends, only for a mysterious stranger to also turn up and suddenly kill himself in front of her the next day. As the police investigate the death, she is forced to reflect on her own past, and a tragic love affair that had devastating repercussions. Mystery, starring Vanessa Redgrave, Ian Holm, Judi Dench and Joely Richardson.
