Stranger from Venus

Stranger from Venus

Burt Balaban (1954)

U Certificate

Our Score
A low budget British remake (although uncredited) of The Day the Earth Stood Still and starring the same lead Patricia Neal, this is directed by Burt Balaban, who adds a mere hint of American zip to the stiff upper lip atmosphere and limited public house setting. After crashing her car, Neal meets mysterious Helmut Dantine who has travelled from Venus to persuade mankind to abandon their nuclear power experiments. A spaceship arrives to increase the pressure, but the dying Dantine sends it away as he disappears in a puff of smoke. Lacklustre and restrained in the extreme.

A spaceman visits Earth to warn people of an imminent planetary disaster, but finds that no one wants to listen. Cautionary sci-fi drama, starring Helmut Dantine, Patricia Neal and Derek Bond.
