Our Score
With the vicious Latin American drug wars providing the backdrop, the shapely Zoe Saldana (of Star Trek and Avatar fame) starring, and cult French film-maker Luc Besson involved in the mix, this action movie promises brutality, raunchiness and thrills aplenty. But the reality is a surprisingly tame affair that fails to really deliver. Beginning with a lengthy preamble that sketches Saldana's tragic backstory in Colombia, the action shifts to the present day to find her all grown up and living in Miami where she wages a one-woman war against the gangs who killed her parents. It makes a refreshing change to see a woman handling the artillery - and Saldana certainly makes for a credible and sexy action heroine - and a man consigned to the status of decorative love interest (in this instance Michael Vartan). But the story itself sticks to more formulaic territory, as our heroine leads a clueless FBI officer (Lennie James) on a merry dance while he investigates her ever more elaborate and preposterous assassinations.

A 10-year-old Colombian girl witnesses the murder of her parents at the hands of gangsters, but is rescued by her uncle, who takes her to the US and raises her to be a cold-blooded killer. Years later, she is still working for him as an assassin, but is secretly planning to avenge her parents' deaths. Action thriller, starring Zoe Saldana, Cliff Curtis, Michael Vartan and Lennie James.
