Our Score
Based on Joan Aiken's children's novel, this is a fun if slightly disappointing romp set in a snowy Yorkshire overrun by wolves during the Industrial Revolution. Emily Hudson and Aleks Darowska are the two girls trying to foil a plot by their evil governess, who is played with bitchy glee by Stephanie Beacham. Grown-up viewers may find parts of the film tedious, but the whole affair is brightened up by the over-the-top performances from comedian Mel Smith, Geraldine James and Rocky Horror Picture Show creator Richard O'Brien.
