You don't have to be crazy to be one of New York's 1,500 bicycle messengers, but it helps, as Joseph Gordon-Levitt (The Dark Knight Rises, Looper) finds out in this fresh, fast-paced and relatively special effects-free thriller. He plays super-cyclist Wilee, who bikes with nerves of steel and legs to match, delivering packages around the city while dodging cars and irate drivers. When an amoral cop (Michael Shannon) needs cash for a gambling debt, he'll stop at nothing to nobble Wilee and get his hands on the valuable parcel the young daredevil has been assigned to deliver. Bright, fun and believable (Gordon-Levitt did many of his own stunts, sustaining an injury requiring 31 stitches in the process - check out the end credits), Premium Rush boasts danger, a delicious bad guy and a solid cast, with Gordon-Levitt cementing his undoubted star credentials.
