Beyond the Prairie 2: the True Story of Laura Ingalls Wilder

Beyond the Prairie 2: the True Story of Laura Ingalls Wilder

Marcus Cole (2002)

Our Score
In this latter half of the true story of Little House on the Prairie scribe Laura Ingalls Wilder, the homesteader (Meredith Monroe) leaves behind her siblings and inspirational parents (Richard Thomas and Lindsay Crouse) to establish her own family. It's a serviceable and highly scenic journey, which as before, owes more to Wilder's multi-volume autobiography than the long-running TV series, though it does veer occasionally as the scene shifts from South Dakota to Missouri. There, Laura, husband Almanzo (Walton Goggins) and their daughter Rose (Skye McCole Bartusiak) try their hand at apple farming. Of course hardship is never far away. The family loses its savings, Almanzo's health begins to fail as winter draws near and Rose struggles to settle in at her new school. In spite of a tendency for high-pitched emotion, Laura ploughs on, but the viewer may have wearied by this point.

Sequel to the fact-based drama, chronicling the continuing adventures of the woman behind the much-loved Little House on the Prairie tales, whose life was as fascinating and exciting as those of the characters in her stories. Meredith Monroe, Konstantin Selivanov, Walt Goggins and Skye McCole Bartusiak star.
