A covert group of US special forces agents get double-crossed and left for dead in this Hollywood take on the graphic novel of the same name. There's a "men on a mission" template at work here that goes back at least as far as The Dirty Dozen, but this noisy yarn proves a painfully undistinguished affair. It's just too formulaic for its own good, from the grizzled leader (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and his tough comrade (Idris Elba from The Wire) to the wise-cracking comic relief (Chris Evans) and sleek, ruthless villain (Jason Patric, who is perplexingly pleased with himself). Avatar's Zoë Saldana is the token female interloper, providing curvaceous interest for teenage boys, as the shambling plot strings together a series of explosive set pieces rendered ineffective by mediocre digital effects. Meanwhile, director Sylvain White ruins the fight sequences with needlessly frenetic editing, leaving it all utterly uninvolving.
Plot Summary
Action adventure starring Zoë Saldana, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Chris Evans. An elite special ops unit, now presumed dead, sets out for payback against the CIA operative who ordered their termination, before he can put his plan for world domination into effect.
