Our Score
In this predictable retread of the 2000 dance drama, aspiring ballerina Sara Johnson (Izabella Miko replacing Julia Stiles) begins studying at New York's prestigious Juilliard School, but finds her passion for hip-hop hindering her progress. Teary soul-searching naturally follows, which is compounded by streetwise tutor Columbus Short encouraging her to listen to her heart rather than ultra-demanding ballet mistress Jacqueline Bisset (a sharp-tongued stereotype). While trained dancer Miko carries herself beautifully, away from the barre her bland performance dilutes the impact of Sara's emotional struggles. Still, the film's hip styling and energetic urban dance-offs should keep teenagers and young adults happy - though whether they swallow the ridiculous finale depends on how cynically they view love.

An aspiring dancer training at New York City's prestigious Juilliard School strives to fulfil her mother's ambition for her to become a prima ballerina. But she starts to rethink her priorities when a teacher introduces her to the world of hip-hop dance. Drama, starring Izabella Miko, Jacqueline Bisset and Columbus Short.
