Our Score
An odd subject for the movie debut of director HC ("Hank") Potter, the Yale Drama School graduate best remembered for comedies such as Hellzapoppin' and Mr Blandings Builds His Dream House. One of the few mainstream Hollywood movies to deal with the political upheaval in Ireland in the early part of this century, this Samuel Goldwyn production features top-billed Merle Oberon falling for Irish rebel leader Brian Aherne. Though the title's of literary derivation, the plot clearly isn't. Nevertheless, it's an intelligent and well-made romantic drama, politics aside. Watch for future star David Niven in a minor supporting role.
