Julia Roberts, Richard Gere and their Pretty Woman director Garry Marshall were reunited for this predictable but well-played romantic comedy. Roberts stars as the small-town girl who has left three heartbroken men at the altar, and Gere plays the cynical columnist who's keen to see if she will actually tie the knot on her fourth attempt. Of course, you'll have worked out the ending before you reach the last line of this review. However, thanks to Roberts's deft comedic touch, a zippy script and some nice support from Marshall stalwart Hector Elizondo and the always reliable Joan Cusack, this is a sweet romance that will warm the cockles of wedding fanatics everywhere. Marriage phobics, however, should steer clear - they may well be converted.
Plot Summary
Romantic comedy starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere. When chauvinistic New York columnist Ike Graham delivers a vicious attack on Maggie Carpenter, who has abandoned three bridegrooms at the altar, her retaliation gets him fired.
