Our Score
In this complex drama from director Nagesh Kukunoor (Hyderabad Blues), the wife of a man wrongly accused of murder in Saudi Arabia must seek out the victim's widow if her husband is to avoid the death penalty. The contrasting scenery of Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan is beautifully captured by cinematographer Sudeep Chatterjee and there are subtle performances from Ayesha Takia and Gul Kirat Panag as two very different women brought together by tragedy. If the film has a few rocky moments (particularly the ill-judged cameo from Kukunoor himself), they are not enough to spoil your enjoyment.

Premiere. Meera (Ayesha Takia) is devastated when her husband is murdered while working in Saudi Arabia. During her period of mourning, the widow's life is brightened by the arrival in her town of Zeenat, a Muslim woman, and the pair soon become close friends. However, Meera's life is thrown into even greater turmoil when she learns that Zeenat is the wife of her husband's killer, and she is seeking to obtain Meera's forgiveness in order for her spouse to be released from prison. Moving drama, with Gul Kirat Panag.
