Review

Our Score
Billed as the movie that was going to revive the ailing western, this film merely performed a little resuscitation before Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven proved there was life in the old genre yet. Just as Steven Spielberg plundered the Saturday serial for his Indiana Jones yarns, so Lawrence Kasdan (who wrote the screenplay for Raiders of the Lost Ark) rustled ideas from virtually every B-western ever made. It's an invigorating adventure, with Kevin Kline, Kevin Costner, Danny Glover and Scott Glenn making attractive heroes. Brian Dennehy and Jeff Goldblum play the hissable villains and John Cleese enjoys his cameo as an English lawman. Pity the thundering hooves didn't drown out Bruce Broughton's less-than-inspiring score, though.

Summary

Two drifters met by chance in the desert, later joined on their travels by one of the duo's reckless younger brother and a man they break out of prison. The mismatched foursome rides to a run-down frontier town and fight to free it from the control of a crooked marshal and his cronies. Western, starring Kevin Kline, Kevin Costner, Scott Glenn, Danny Glover, Rosanna Arquette and Jeff Goldblum.
