In this pleasant slice of family fare, teen Josh Hutcherson and stepfather Dwayne Johnson trace the actual location of author Jules Verne's supposedly fictional island. Having travelled to the South Pacific and roped in helicopter pilot Luiz Guzmán (providing stale comic relief) and his daughter Vanessa Hudgens (the teen love interest), they weather a hurricane and crash on the island. There they find Hutcherson's grandfather Michael Caine (doing his best Captain Birds Eye impression), and discover the truth about their location. As they try to escape, they battle monster lizards, fly on giant bees and uncover hidden treasure. The scenery is spectacular, but there's little sense of peril and the plotting is perfunctory, in an innocuous fantasy that pastiches Verne, Treasure Island and Gulliver's Travels. Johnson's pectoral popping and ukulele version of What a Wonderful World could conceivably be an added attraction. Or not.
