Our Score
There's fun for pre-teens and adults alike in this zany animated comedy in which an ultra-smart talking dog will do anything to become a real boy. Spinning off from a Disney TV cartoon series, the outlandish, modern fairy tale combines a breakneck barrage of pop-culture references, catchy tunes and madcap sight gags. An exuberant Nathan Lane voices the sarcastic, titular canine Spot, whose Pinocchio-type mission leads him to a wacko Florida scientist (Kelsey Grammer) who claims he can transform animals into humans. Vivid retro-style visuals add to the energy, while a compact running time and consistent inventiveness stop the inevitable splashes of sentimentality spoiling the playful tone.

A family remain unaware their dog is super-intelligent, and able to read and speak. The canine genius disguises himself as a boy so he can go to school and longs to be a real human. He seeks out a mad scientist who claims to be able to turn animals into people, but he soon learns that being human is not all fun. Animated adventure, with the voices of Nathan Lane and Kelsey Grammer.
