What a Carve Up!

What a Carve Up!

Pat Jackson (1961)

U Certificate

Our Score
Not an adaptation of Jonathan Coe's acclaimed 1994 novel, but an old dark house comedy, co-written by that master of the double entendre, Ray Cooney. Carry On regulars Sid James and Kenneth Connor are among those gathering at a musty mansion in the hope of inheriting a fortune, but, as anyone who has seen The Cat and the Canary can tell you, the chances of a will being read without blood being shed are pretty slim. The cast works wonders with a script that too often settles for a cheap laugh, with Donald Pleasence and Michael Gough having more fun than most.

Members of a squabbling family are summoned to a spooky isolated house for the reading of a dead relative's will. However, as the night wears on, they find themselves targeted by a killer who seems determined to pick them off one by one. Comedy, starring Kenneth Connor, Sid James, Donald Pleasence, Dennis Price and Michael Gwynne.
