Review

A star rating of 4 out of 5.

The demise of Oasis and the lukewarm reception given to his next band Beady Eye left Liam Gallagher at a crossroads in his career, but this engaging documentary charts his comeback and emergence as a solo artist with the 2017 chart-topping album As You Were. Cameras follow the singer as he pieces together his future, planning low-key live shows and recording sessions after (slightly) going off the rails when he thought his time in the music business was over. Inevitably, the continued strained relationship with brother Noel is covered (they haven't spoken for a decade), but the focus is more on an older, wiser man who talks candidly about his own mistakes, not least in his relationships with the mothers of his children. What is evident throughout is Gallagher's undeniable charisma, his sharp wit and self-effacing humour; he's a gentler, humbler man these days, but the electrifying concert footage confirms he's still a natural born pop star.
