Review

Our Score
Although he could make a mean urban drama and a serviceable outdoor adventure, Joseph M Newman never quite got the hang of westerns. Consequently, he not only wastes the vista opportunities presented by Carl Guthrie's CinemaScope photography, but he also allows this Dodge City encounter to meander to its inevitable showdown between reformed outlaw Joel McCrea and trigger-happy bad guys. However, sheriff McCrea seems to have more on his mind than law and order, as both widowed saloon owner Nancy Gates and minister's daughter Julie Adams tug on his heartstrings. Snarling unconvincingly and clad all in black, Richard Anderson (later to play Lee Majors's pal Oscar in The Six Million Dollar Man) is just one of the assorted desperados who want to send our hero to Boot Hill in a box.
