Peter Ustinov plays Hercule Poirot in this second screen version of Agatha Christie's Lord Edgware Dies. The Belgian detective is troubled by the murder of a peer and becomes convinced that, in spite of the evidence of the guests at a dinner party, the peer's wife may have committed the crime. As the police turn their attention to her, a second killing occurs to prevent Poirot discovering some vital information. It's glossy, efficient entertainment, with a highly contrived dénouement, but Ustinov is fine and Faye Dunaway holds back nothing as the prime suspect.
