Our Score
The intriguing concept of this freewheeling Jim Carrey comedy - what would happen if you answered every question with the word "yes"? - has been lifted from the non-fiction book by British TV presenter Danny Wallace (Test the Nation, How to Start Your Own Country). The action relocates to LA, where Carrey is a depressed, antisocial, single, divorced loan adviser whose response to every invite is "no". However, after an unconvincing quasi-religious seminar converts him to the affirmative, life takes unexpectedly random turns: he learns Korean, hooks up with an Iranian internet bride and holidays in Nebraska. He also connects with free-spirited rock chick Zooey Deschanel, ultimately handicapping the enjoyably wacky antics with standard romantic comedy box-ticking. But Carrey is likeable rather than annoying and generously allows New Zealander Rhys Darby (The Flight of the Conchords) to steal every scene he's in as a geeky, Harry Potter-obsessed bank manager.

Summary

A depressed and anti-social loans adviser attends a self-improvement course and decides to start saying yes to every opportunity that comes his way. His outlook is immediately transformed, but he soon realises that some invitations should not be accepted and struggles to find a balance in his life. Comedy, loosely based on the autobiographical book by Danny Wallace, starring Jim Carrey, Zooey Deschanel, Bradley Cooper and John Michael Higgins.
