Jane Fonda deservedly won the best actress Oscar for her performance in this exceptional adult thriller from director Alan J Pakula (All the President's Men). She takes a remarkably cool walk on the wild side as a call girl stalked by a homicidal maniac. Donald Sutherland is on top form, too, playing the gentle small-town detective who teaches her the difference between love and sex as he closes in on the killer. There's nail-biting suspense in spades, thanks to the atmospheric cinematography of Godfather cameraman Gordon Willis.

Summary

A private detective investigates the disappearance of a scientist in New York, but finds his only lead is a prostitute with a tenuous connection to the missing man - and his attempts to gain her help are soon hampered by shadowy figures intent on silencing her.
