Review

Our Score
One to admire or abhor, this case history of a sexual obsession from director Nicolas Roeg dazzles with flashbacks and disturbs with "What if?" sidetracks. Art Garfunkel plays the psycho psychiatrist involved in a sadistic affair with Theresa Russell that starts with her suicide attempt and ends with even nastier revelations about their relationship. Seven years after his poignantly creepy Don't Look Now, Roeg piles on angst-ridden chic to the detriment of human values and sympathy, but, for what he achieves in complexity and conviction, it's well worth watching.
