Review

Our Score
This brittle romantic drama stars Noël Coward as a psychiatrist whose understanding wife (Celia Johnson) attempts to condone his adultery with her beautiful best friend (Margaret Leighton). Adapted by Coward from one of his weakest and least known plays, it was a low point in the career of all three principals and co-director Terence Fisher. It sank into almost immediate obscurity, and there it should perhaps remain, but for curiosity value. The one star is for Johnson, who cannot avoid being wonderful as a best-of-British middle-class wife.

Summary

A married psychiatrist falls for another woman - an old schoolfriend of his wife - leading to disaster for all concerned. Dated but watchable melodrama written by and starring Noel Coward, with Celia Johnson, Margaret Leighton and Joyce Carey.
