Our Score
This tale of polar opposites brought together by dance - inspired by choreographer JoAnn Jansen's experiences as a teenager in Cuba - is a thematic reworking, rather than a sequel, to the 1987 hit movie. Set in Havana in 1958, during the run-up to the revolution, it sees Romola Garai's American teen shocking her rich father's country club set by falling for fancy-footed local waiter Diego Luna. Though the two are attractive together, their dancing lacks fire and there's consequently no sense of the sexual tension that ignited the original. Having Patrick Swayze pop up in a dance-teacher cameo doesn't help either - he's still got the magic moves, making poor Luna look clumsy in comparison.

A naive American teenager moves with her wealthy family to 1950s Cuba, where she is bewitched by the pulsing Latin American rhythms. Eventually, a partnership made on the dance floor with a local waiter leads to a passionate romance, but meets with the disapproval of her family. Drama, starring Romola Garai, Diego Luna, Jonathan Jackson, January Jones, and featuring a cameo by Patrick Swayze.
