Our Score
The 70-something romance of Ada Cresswell and Walter Bingley was never engrossing sitcom viewing, even though the 1970 TV series was popular in its day, and this movie spin-off, set on the couple's first wedding anniversary, is leisurely in the extreme. Like so many 30-minute specialists before them, writers Vince Powell and Harry Driver struggle to find ways to fill the extra hour. Yet the by-play between widow Irene Handl and Wilfred Pickles (as the gravedigger who'd buried her husband) is engaging enough, and there's some practised comic support from daughter Barbara Mitchell and football crazy son-in-law Jack Smethurst. A nice memento for fans, but too gentle for modern tastes.
