Our Score
In this heartbreaking romantic melodrama, Irene Dunne looks back over the highs and lows of her marriage to Cary Grant as they prepare to divorce. It's a story that will clutch at your heart and it's all expertly controlled by master director George Stevens, but don't watch if the deaths of young children (albeit dramatised) are upsetting to you. Grant gives a lesson in screen acting and was rightly Oscar-nominated for a superb, subtly-shaded portrayal that keeps sentimentality at bay. If you can take it, this is quite a viewing experience.

A couple devastated by the discovery that they cannot have children try to secure their happiness by adopting a baby. However, it seems fate has dealt them a cruel blow, and when tragedy strikes again they begin to drift apart with little hope of salvaging the relationship. Romantic drama, starring Cary Grant, Irene Dunne, Edgar Buchanan, Ann Doran and Beulah Bondi.
