Peter Cushing considered this clumsy chiller the worst picture he ever made. In many respects he was right. He plays the policeman investigating vampire-style murders carried out by a giant death's-head moth masquerading as the "daughter" of a renowned Victorian entomologist. Well, it must have seemed a good idea at the time! Vernon Sewell's direction barely papers over the pedestrian cracks in an equally moth-eaten screenplay decked out with a catalogue of dodgy horror clichés.

A 19th-century police inspector investigates a series of strange murders, with the victims all drained of blood. His efforts to crack the case lead to a scientist performing genetic experiments, whose daughter has been transformed into a giant moth. Gothic horror, starring Peter Cushing, Wanda Ventham and Robert Flemyng.
