Our Score
Who else but Will Hay could apply for the headship of a school only to find himself appointed a prison governor and then get mistaken for the most dangerous inmate? Sadly, the film loses its way once Hay assumes power and introduces a regime so liberal that the lags proceed to take over. The great man is somewhat below par in this muddled and overlong comedy, while regular stooges Moore Marriott and Graham Moffat are disappointingly sidelined by a subplot involving Googie Withers posing as a prison-reforming countess whose embezzling leads to an unfunny slapstick finale.

Summary

A disgraced teacher unwittingly takes a job as governor of a prison for particularly hardened criminals, believing it is a school. Things get even worse when he celebrates his new job by getting drunk and causing mayhem - which leads to his being arrested and sent to his own jail. Comedy, starring Will Hay and Moore Marriott.
