Abandoned by her husband, and deep in a man-hating funk, single mother Christine Lahti opens her house to boarders - including runaway Grace Lynn Kung and misfit Daniel Baldwin - and soon finds release in helping them through their various crises. It's hard to understand why such an accomplished cast was lured into participating in this remorselessly sunny depiction of a neverland suburbia in which even the worst troubles are temporary. Despite Eva Marie Saint as Lahti's sensible mother and Rita Moreno as her blowsy friend, this is middlebrow make-believe of the blandest kind.
