Review

Our Score
For all its pretensions, this tale of a modern woman giving as good as she gets is little more than a sophisticated soap opera. Screenwriter Callie Khouri reverses the tactics she employed in Thelma and Louise, and has disgruntled wife Julia Roberts stand and fight rather than take to the road. But it's not much of a contest, as who could possibly have any sympathy for either play-away husband Dennis Quaid or overbearing father Robert Duvall? It's directed with care but no flair by Lasse Hallström, and Roberts is outclassed by both sparky sister Kyra Sedgwick and snobby mom Gena Rowlands.

Summary

Grace Bichon discovers her husband has been unfaithful and plots a fitting revenge - only to be shocked by her family's apparent acceptance of his infidelity. However, when it emerges that Grace's father is also a long-term philanderer, a battle of the sexes ensues. Drama, starring Julia Roberts, Dennis Quaid, Robert Duvall, Kyra Sedgwick and Gena Rowlands.
