Our Score
The supernatural is stripped of scariness in first-time writer/director Todd Lincoln's over-padded and forgettable ghost story. Another Paranormal Activity-style grab-bag of second-hand ideas and ineffective jolts, it sees zero-chemistry couple Ashley Greene (Twilight Saga) and Sebastian Stan (Bucky in the Captain America movies) listlessly haunted by a malevolent spirit as a result of an experiment Stan participated in at college. While the sound design and score create a creepy air, they're undermined by the tediously undramatic events that involve little more than self-opening doors, moving furniture and some ridiculously non-spooky mould. Empty performances compound the bland and barely-there plotting, making Greene in particular appear to have been cast solely for her looks. Only Harry Potter regular Tom Felton, playing Stan's former college pal, seems remotely frightened, though his character's clunky, pseudo-scientific nonsense adds nothing but confusion to the film.

Summary

A student and three of his college friends attempt to recreate a notorious 1970s university parapsychology experiment using modern technology, but he and his girlfriend end up being terrorised by a supernatural presence. Horror thriller, starring Ashley Greene, Sebastian Stan, Tom Felton, Julianna Guill and Rick Gomez.
