Our Score
Youthful exuberance and an affectionate eye for suburban life help paper over the technical deficiencies of this oddball black comedy. It was the first film that introduced John Simm (Human Traffic, The Lakes) to a wider audience. He plays a confused teen desperate to get out of his dead-end life in dead-end Stevenage, as his friends drift improbably into crime. It's a bit erratic but there are some nice lines, plus a memorably off-kilter turn from Marc Warren (Mad Dogs, Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell).

A teenager tries to break away from the influence of his delinquent friends, whose lives revolve around thuggery and alcohol on the grim estate in Stevenage where they live. Unfortunately, his grieving father's emotional frailty threatens to quash his dreams of a better future. Drama, starring John Simm, Emer McCourt, Marc Warren and Andrew Lincoln.
