Dolph Lundgren never did make it onto the action-star A-list following his breakout role as the Russian punching machine who batters Sylvester Stallone to within an inch of his life in Rocky IV. The Swedish-born star has flexed his muscles to decent effect in Dark Angel, Universal Soldier and Stallone's Expendables franchise (for ageing tough guys), but much of Lundgren's back catalogue has been routine straight-to-video/dvd fodder. Sadly, this sci-fi horror is in that vein, despite one off-the-wall variation on a theme. Here the grizzled Lundgren plays a mercenary hired to rescue a VIP's daughter from a virus-hit city infested with slavering ghouls. Up close, the star pulls off the taciturn tough guy act with aplomb, but no amount of judicious editing can disguise the fact he's more geriatric than dynamic in the action scenes. If there is a saving grace, it's the plot curve ball that introduces rogue robots ready to kill off any fiend that gets in their way. So if you're in the mood for a low-budget mash-up of 28 Days Later... and RoboCop, this is the ideal post-pub entertainment.

An isolated military laboratory is devastated by a viral outbreak that turns most of the staff into zombies. The survivors fight to stay alive in the hope that a rescue mission is under way, only to suddenly face a new threat when a force of robot soldiers gets out of control. Sci-fi adventure, starring Dolph Lundgren and Melanie Zanetti.
