Our Score
ER's Eriq La Salle learns about the importance of family in this syrupy but solid melodrama. He plays a struggling former American football star who reluctantly returns home following his father's death, to face the kin he deserted six years previously. The stormy conflict that ensues is milked for maximum impact, tugging at the heart at every opportunity. However, it's the quality performances that ultimately carry events, making the emotions on show feel honest even when the plot is at its most contrived and predictable. As a result, thinly sketched characters and La Salle's unconvincing backstory become less grating, and are forgotten completely in a genuinely poignant, if reductive, finale.
