Our Score
Even though screenwriter Christopher Fry consulted with eminent Bible scholars and producer Dino DeLaurentiis threw pots of money at the project, this is a reverential but ponderous adaptation of the first 22 chapters of Genesis. Director John Huston makes a lovely job of the Creation, but the stellar casting too often works against the drama, most notably in the case of Richard Harris's Cain, Stephen Boyd's Nimrod and Ava Gardner's Sarah. George C Scott is imposing as Abraham, however, while Huston himself makes a suitably humble Noah. Giuseppe Rotunno's photography is striking, but Toshiro Mayuzumi's Oscar-nominated score is somewhat overbearing.

John Huston's epic re-telling of the Book of Genesis, chronicling the stories of Adam and Eve, Noah and the flood and Abraham and Isaac. Starring Richard Harris, Peter O'Toole, Michael Parks, Ava Gardner, George C Scott and Huston himself as the voice of God.
