Our Score
Helen Hayes plays Miss Marple in this mystery based on one of Agatha Christie's weaker whodunnits, in which the spinster sleuth investigates the death of an elderly major the morning after he revealed a sensational tale of greed and murder to her. Making the best of her miscasting, the 83-year-old Hayes still compares unfavourably with Margaret Rutherford and Joan Hickson, but the film benefits from not having the all-star cast that spoils the guessing game in so many other Christie adaptations. Don't be fooled by the "exotic" locations, this TV movie was shot on the cheap in California.

Summary

Miss Marple arrives in the Bahamas for rest and recuperation, where she encounters a retired army officer with a secret to reveal. He claims to have proof that a guest at the resort is a killer, but before he can specify who, he is poisoned and the incriminating evidence disappears. It falls to the indomitable amateur sleuth to unmask the culprit. Drama, with Helen Hayes, Barnard Hughes, Season Hubley and Swoosie Kurtz.
