George Mihalka's 1981 Halloween wannabe receives a highly respectable reboot here, with canny 3D coating (the first horror to be shot in the digital Real D process) giving extra flinch value to the standard-issue slasher clichés. Ten years after a mining tragedy caused a seriously injured survivor to turn psycho and go on the rampage, a new series of brutal slayings begins when Jensen Ackles (from TV's Supernatural) returns to the small community to sell his creepy colliery inheritance. The perceptive script touches all the key exploitation bases (nudity, horny teenagers, gruesome deaths) while keeping the love triangle between Ackles, Jamie King and Kerr Smith at the heart of the vividly gory mayhem, and maintaining the mystery of the maniac's identity. Director/co-editor Patrick Lussier ensures the pace stays lively and the demented miner's pickaxe - the perfect 3D murder weapon - remains the thing to dodge, among the eyeballs, brains and blood that seemingly fly from the screen in impressively orchestrated ways.

Ten years after causing a mining accident that led to a killing spree, Tom Hanniger confronts his demons and returns home to the town of Harmony. However, his arrival coincides with the return of a murderer everyone believed was long gone. Horror remake, starring Jensen Ackles, Jaime King, Kerr Smith and Betsy Rue.
