Eduardo Sanchez (2014)

Our Score
Blair Witch co-director Eduardo Sanchez is back on familiar ground here with this "found footage" terror tale, in which five friends decamp to a cabin in the woods, only to end up corralled and terrorised by the legendary Bigfoot. However, this time Sanchez is definitely a victim of his own success. After all, it was he and Daniel Myrick who spawned the craze for "found footage" horror back in 1998 and created a ground-breaking but now much imitated subgenre all of its own. So though the film isn't awful and has a few spooky, unnerving moments, there is a sense that we have seen it all before. Also, Drew Goddard's genre-inverting Cabin in the Woods from 2010 did such a good job of deconstructing the whole "kids in peril" tale to such a crazy degree, it's going to take something really special or different to impress.

After venturing into the remote Texas woods for a party weekend, five friends are terrorised by a legendary monster. Horror from the director of The Blair Witch Project, starring Samuel Davis, Dora Madison, Roger Edwards and Chris Osborn.
