Our Score
Ira Levin's bestseller about suburban housewives becoming obedient robots is here turned into an intriguing thriller that highlights society's increasing obsession with perfection. Bryan Forbes's thoughtful direction and intelligent script unfold at a measured pace, so the suspenseful mystery can exert a chilling grip before it ultimately appals. Katharine Ross and Paula Prentiss shine as the nonconformist women fighting their animatronic fate. Followed by three inferior made-for-TV affairs, and an awful camp remake starring Nicole Kidman in 2004.

A young wife and her family relocate from New York to the quieter suburbs of Connecticut. However, she becomes increasingly suspicious of her female neighbours, whose ordered behaviour and total devotion to their husbands and domesticity hide a terrible secret. Satirical sci-fi thriller, based on Ira Levin's novel, starring Katharine Ross, Paula Prentiss, Nanette Newman and Peter Masterson.
