Trapped in Paradise

Trapped in Paradise

George Gallo (1994)

PG Certificate

Our Score
One from the days before Nicolas Cage reinvented himself as an action star, this is a slight but engaging festive offering. Cage is the hapless good guy who is roped into a yuletide robbery by his brothers (Dana Carvey and Jon Lovitz), and they find themselves trapped by inclement weather in possibly the nicest small town in America. Carvey and Lovitz grab the best lines, but Cage is a commendable straight man and there are some good supporting turns from the likes of Donald Moffat, Mädchen Amick and John Ashton. Writer/director George Gallo can't resist laying on the Christmas sentiment at the end but, for the most part, he keeps the story moving in amiable fashion.

Three bungling brothers manage to pull off a major robbery in a backwoods community on Christmas Eve, but the unwitting locals make them feel so welcome they find it impossible to leave town, leaving the crooks facing a crisis of conscience. Offbeat comedy, starring Nicolas Cage, Dana Carvey, Jon Lovitz and Madchen Amick.
