Review

Our Score
Merle Oberon gets to weep buckets in this sudsy melodrama in which she poses as a blind young woman to help her sightless protégé Dana Andrews fulfil his potential as a composer. Director John Cromwell could churn out this kind of sentimental nonsense in his sleep, and he knows just when to play on the heartstrings or lighten the atmosphere through the knowing performances of Ethel Barrymore and Hoagy Carmichael. The best part is watching Artur Rubinstein and the New York Philharmonic treating Andrews's lousy tune as a classical masterpiece.
