Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island

Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island

Hiroshi Aoyama, Kazumi Fukushima, Jim Stenstrum (1998)

PG Certificate

Our Score
This lively animated feature based on the TV cartoon series shows what happened to Mystery Inc after they grew tired of unmasking fake monsters: Daphne is a chat-show host, with Fred as her producer/crew; Velma has a mystery bookshop, and Scooby and Shaggy work in airport security. But Fred brings them back for Daphne's TV show, and a return to some of the fun of the series before it became diluted with Scrappy-Doo. The story's stuffed with time-filling incidents, usually involving food and slapstick, and aficionados of the original show will warm to the antics of Shaggy and Scooby, who scoff and scarper as if in a time warp. But once the zombies emerge from the swamps of a cat-filled Louisiana plantation, the action takes a turn that's rather creepy for a children's cartoon.

The gang arrives on a remote island and find it inhabited by hordes of the living dead, led by the evil ghost of Moonscar the pirate. Animated adventure, with the voices of Scott Innes, Billy West, Mark Hamill, Frank Welker and Adrienne Barbeau.
