Terminal Velocity

Terminal Velocity

Deran Sarafian (1994)

Our Score
Terminal stupidity, more like it. The second in a brief Hollywood flirtation with skydiving movies - Drop Zone came out in the same year - this big, dumb action thriller exhilarates when airborne, but drags dangerously when on solid ground. Charlie Sheen plays the dogged parachuting instructor investigating the death of a pupil, who gets mixed up with Russian gangsters, and it's always a pleasure to see Nastassja Kinski on the screen, here playing the enigmatic heroine. But, ever since Hot Shots!, it's hard to take Sheen seriously as an action hero, and the film lacks premier-league baddies.

A skydiving instructor tries to clear himself of responsibility for the death of a woman whose parachute failed to open. However, he later learns she is a Russian spy who faked her own demise, and now needs his help to foil an international criminal conspiracy out to steal a fortune in bullion. Action thriller, starring Charlie Sheen, Nastassja Kinski and James Gandolfini.
