SPYkids 3: Game Over

SPYkids 3: Game Over

Robert Rodriguez (2003)

U Certificate

Our Score
Robert Rodriguez's vibrant SPYkids franchise ditches plot sophistication in favour of pure visual spectacle for this second sequel. Filmed predominantly in 3D, it makes for an optically impressive though superficial experience, as Rodriguez transforms his pint-sized spy caper into a minutely detailed cyberspace fantasy. It's like a state-of-the-art Tron for the PlayStation 2 generation, as young agents Daryl Sabara and Alexa Vega journey into the virtual-reality world of a 3D video game to save mankind from its megalomaniac creator, Sylvester Stallone. Youngsters will love the fast-moving, brightly coloured action sequences as our heroes battle through increasingly perilous game levels, while humorous cameos and witty banter help camouflage the limp storyline and weak characters. Ultimately, the tale relies too heavily on its 3D effects to really work in other formats, but at least at the cinema it's an enjoyable ride.

Young agent Juni has to go it alone when his big sister Carmen is kidnapped by the evil Toymaker, forcing the plucky junior spy to infiltrate the villain's virtual reality world to rescue her. Adventure sequel, starring Daryl Sabara, Alexa Vega, Sylvester Stallone, Antonio Banderas, Ricardo Montalban, George Clooney, Steve Buscemi, Salma Hayek and Elijah Wood.
