Our Score
In this creaky melodrama, a scientist disfigured in an explosion returns to London to clear his name, identify a killer and reclaim his girl. The plot is now a cliché, of course, but this remains mesmerisingly watchable because of its period production values and the sheer gall of the finale. Griffith Jones and Rosalyn Boulter are the lacklustre, but remarkably well-spoken, leads, and it's all ably directed by Victor Hanbury. Shown in the US as Face behind the Scar and copied in hundreds of B-movies.
