Our Score
Another peppy and superbly rendered masterwork from animation house Pixar, pulling off their classic trick of delivering captivating colourful fun for kids along with wickedly smart insights. Here, the main action happens within the brain of an ice-hockey-obsessed tomboy, Riley, where emotions are comedically personified and thrown into conflict. It's the family move from rural Minnesota to crowded San Francisco that causes this "head trip" when the primal instincts of Joy (voiced by comedian Amy Poehler) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith) are accidentally ejected from Memory HQ, leaving Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black) and Disgust (Mindy Kaling) in charge. A desperate race back to Riley's mental control centre begins - before Riley can decide to run away - with fantastic voyages through Imagination Land and the dark Subconscious via erratic Trains of Thought and on into Dreamland, where reveries are constructed in a mini movie studio. Once more the level of conceptual cleverness and ingenious visual design creates real magic.

Five Emotions must work hard when a young girl moves to a new city.
