Review

Our Score
Pat Conroy's epic novel about a dysfunctional southern family is deftly translated to the screen under the subtle direction of Barbra Streisand, who also stars as the New York psychiatrist helping Nick Nolte come to terms with his twin sister's attempted suicide. Nolte is superb as he wrestles with his family's demons, and Streisand sensibly stays on the sidelines (although the camera lingering occasionally on her stockinged legs and talon-like fingernails does provide some unwelcome distraction). Jason Gould (Streisand's son from her marriage to Elliott Gould) also features as, of course, Streisand's on-screen son.
