Our Score
Roy Rogers declared this a favourite among his westerns, though it's hard to see why - except for the fact that it gives Trigger, billed as "The Smartest Horse in the Movies", more prominence than usual. Horse breeding is central to a rather dramatic storyline, which sees one champion steed shot dead, Rogers accused of the crime, and a mare being fatally injured by a mountain lion while protecting her offstring. Former star Jack Holt plays the lead heavy, with the familiar dark-jowled faces of Roy Barcroft, LeRoy Mason and Kenne Duncan backing him up.

A cowboy is forced to become a fugitive after being falsely accused of killing a champion racehorse. He later discovers that his mare is pregnant by the dead animal and raises the foal to adulthood. His new steed proves remarkably intelligent, and a useful ally in clearing his name. Western, starring Roy Rogers and George `Gabby' Hayes.
