Our Score
Having lampooned zombie flicks in Shaun of the Dead and cop action movies in Hot Fuzz, dynamic comedy duo Simon Pegg and Nick Frost tackle science fiction in this amusing culture-clash romp. They play a pair of British comic-book nerds who take a road trip to the Nevada desert in order to see America's most famous UFO sites. Then, lo and behold, they encounter Paul, a little green hitch-hiker - spookily animated in CGI and voiced by Seth Rogen - who's trying to get to his spaceship. Moments of hilarity ensue because Paul - despite his alien nature - makes the humans look desperately uncool. It helps that he's a fun-loving stoner who insists everyone "chill out" despite Jason Bateman's hard-nosed federal agent being on their trail. The chase loses some momentum in the middle and a romantic subplot, involving Kristen Wiig as a religious fanatic, dilutes the formula. And although Superbad's Greg Mottola doesn't have the firm directorial grip of the pair's usual collaborator, Edgar Wright, for the most part this is a far-out, funny ride.

Summary

An alien held captive in a top-secret American military base escapes and hides out in the van of two English comic-book geeks on a tour of UFO hotspots. The wisecracking extraterrestrial enlists the duo's help in getting back to his spaceship, but they are soon pursued by government agents and unwittingly become kidnappers. Sci-fi comedy, starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, with the voice of Seth Rogen.
