Our Score
Made for TV, this old-fashioned British comedy really yearns for the quaint charm the Ealing studio achieved so effortlessly. The setting is the kind of village - all gossip and cream teas - which can't have existed since director Val Guest was a boy. Its incompetent brass band, with musicians played by comics galore, is taken in hand by pop maestro Robin Nedwell. Laughs are few and far between, but someone thought the idea was worth developing, and the result was the regular TV series Shillingbury Tales. For a brass band comedy with a bit of oomph, try Brassed Off.

Summary

A high-flying couple grow sick of life in the big city, and decamp to the countryside for a bit of peace and quiet - only to become involved in the politics of the local brass band. Comedy drama, starring Trevor Howard, Diane Keen and Robert Nedwell.
