Our Score
Margaret Drabble adapted her novel The Millstone for this capable and well-made social drama. A young student (Sandy Dennis, in one of her most effective performances) loses her virginity and becomes pregnant. It may seem all rather dated now when viewed from the post-permissive 21st century, but the rest of the cast (Eleanor Bron, John Standing) is also strong, including Ian McKellen's sharp TV announcer, the unwitting father of the child.

A single mother is determined to go it alone in spite of the social stigma and practical problems in her path. Drama, starring Sandy Dennis and Ian McKellen.
